When deep tissue massage techniques are skillfully applied, practitioners are able to access deeper musculature allowing for release of chronic tightness and pain.  Trigger point and myofascial release techniques are also used to encourage alignment of the muscles, restoring the natural balance of the skeletal structure. This restoration of alignment brings improvement to organ function and general well being. Although deep tissue massage can produce some discomfort, it should still be relaxing; the goal after all, is to relieve the tension between muscles and the skeleton. I have also learned in my experience that little to no force can cause a tremendous amount of change.
